A smoke cloud stretches over Tower 32 on Carlsbad State Beach on May 14. The Poinsettia Fire, which began at approximately 10:30 a.m., killed one person and destroyed or significantly damaged eight homes, an 18-unit apartment complex and two commercial buildings as it burned 600 acres throughout Carlsbad.

At 10:30 a.m. on May 14, 2014 a wildfire broke out near Poinsettia Lane and Alicante Road.  Over the next two days, Lancer Link worked to update students and CUSD community members through Twitter.  Here is a recap of the major events of the fire  collected from our Twitter posts and retweets from other community members and news organizations.
